Jeff Stuef of Wonkette = A Pig Without Lipstick

In Fails, Media, People on April 21, 2011 at 12:31 pm

Today is the day we come together to celebrate the snowbilly grifter’s magical journey from Texas to Alaska to deliver to the America the great gentleman scholar Trig Palin. Is Palin his true mother? Or was Bristol? (And why is it that nobody questions who the father is? Because, either way, Todd definitely did it.) It doesn’t matter. What matters is that we are privileged to live in a time when we can witness the greatest prop in world political history.

Wonkette “writer”, Jack Stuef  is a pig and vomited the above swill on the occasion of Trig Palin’s third birthday. Remember Trig is the son of Sarah Palin and has Down Syndrome.  And yes Oink Stuef referred to Trig as “retarded”.  Read the entire hogshit  here. Isn’t it  just so hipster hilarious how Swine Stuef insinuates that toddler Trig may be the result of incest?  Yeah, I know a grown Porker shouldn’t be picking on a lil three-year-old boy. But how else to cater to his evidently low-IQ readers? (Read some of the comments especially from the apparently word-challenged poster who refers to anyone that disagrees with Mr. Grunter as a “poopyhead”).  I dislike Palin and her policies as much as the next self-described liberal but making fun of her child and inferring incest is something only bacon-on-the-hoof  like Stuef would condone.

John King CNN Needs to be Fired

In Media, People, Politics on April 16, 2011 at 10:47 pm

John King of CNN recently hosted ‘”birther queen” Orly Taitz on his CNN program and appeared to take her parallel universe seriously. Here is the transcript.  If ya have half a brain and are half-way intelligent then you know Barack Obama was born in the USA.  But King who  I’ve always suspected as being Beckian wants to place doubt in the minds of  those voters who are too dumb to know  the difference. Meh, King should be fired and then hired at FOX.

Michelle Malkin Hates Children

In Fails, Media, People on April 16, 2011 at 12:46 am

Today Michelle Malkin reveals herself to be a hate-filled, self-important narcissist.  Malkin’s most recent post,

Goodbye, AmeriCorps. Hello, FoodStampCorps.

locks it in: she doesn’t care about starving children or the well-being of the elderly.  MM hates AmeriCorps and has since President Obama fired Inspector General  Gerald Walpin . On April 11 a court of appeals rejected  Walpin’s  contention that he should be reinstated. Does Malkin cover this story? Uh, no.

Malkin has had  a hate-on for AmeriCorps for quite sometime, going so far as referring to the organization as “AmeriCrooks“.    That’s because her life belief system  commands self-reliance. No matter that Americans lost their jobs to the Great Recession. Malkin posts a graph showing the increase in food stamp recipients for the past three years and attributes the increase to Pres. Obama. Huh? The Great Recession was brought about by Wall Street gambling: something MM doesn’t  want to admit. Even Malkin’s beloved Fox News acknowledges the relationship between  unemployment and the record number of  food stamp recipients.

Malkin has problems with VISTA, a program founded in 1965 “designed specifically to fight  poverty” and placed under the AmeriCorps umbrella in 1993.  VISTA works with the poverty-stricken exclusively.  Quote from MM:

Yes, across the Internet, the feds are recruiting AmeriCorps VISTA (“Volunteers in Service to America”) workers to apply for jobs as publicists for the welfare state. Their mission: to sign up as many people to federal food stamp rolls as possible.

She goes on to describe a “typical” VISTA job opening in Boston for a Food Stamp Coordinator.  This is an internship position and would work with the local Elderly Commission to assist eligible senior citizens with applying for food stamps. Malkin resents what she perceives as the unnecessary expansion of the “welfare state”.  She wonders why existing social service and welfare agencies can’t do the job: why does VISTA need additional employees and volunteers (the position in Boston is unpaid: something Malkin doesn’t mention) ? Why are “left-wing” churches being asked to assist families in need with applying for school lunch programs and serving as sites for the Summer Food Service Program? I dunno but I can guess. Existing resources are maxed-out due to the relationship, again, between the high unemployment rate and increased need. Malkin seems unable to grasp that the unemployed and their families don’t lose their need to eat along with their jobs.

Malkin resents that workers for VISTA may be eligible for food stamps themselves since any wages paid to VISTA workers aren’t much (certainly much less than Malkin accrues). So she selectively quotes a VSITA blog  hoping none of her true believers will click through the link and insinuates VISTA workers apply for food stamps as a “perk”. Truth is the stipend available to VSITA workers is so little that they qualify for food stamps . See how that works?

Malkin hates the food stamp program or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)  as  it has been termed since 20o8. According to the USDA  nearly half (48%) of SNAP recipients in 2009 were children.  How does Malkin’s self-reliance BS equate? Guess she hates children.

Truth is Michelle Malkin would pull the wings off of Tinkerbell if she had the chance. Her soul is *that* small.

Just a lil side dish: I noticed that one of the ads on Malkin’s blog is for “Free  Govt. Supported Cell Phones”. The link leads to Safe-Link, a company that provides cell phone service for  low-income Americans. Safe-Link states that to qualify for the phone one must usually be on one or more government assistance programs (including SNAP). The actual phones are provided by the company but our government subsidises the minutes. This program was first enacted by Pres. Reagan in  1984 . At the time qualifying Americans received a  deduction to their landline  bill.

The Democratic Base is an Enabler

It’s pathetic that today’s Gallup Poll indicates that 80% of  Americans who identify as  Democrats approve of President Obama. Really it’s mind-blowing. The so-called Democratic “base” is an enabler and Obama knows it. The President doesn’t have to keep his campaign promises or “Change”  the government status quo because his ‘base” will blindly worship no matter the betrayal.

His promise to assist Americans losing their homes to foreclosure (HAMP) was a joke; a complete failure. Banks were allowed to screw homeowners with impunity and the Obama administration was silent. Candidate  Obama promised there would be windfall profit taxes for oil companies: three budget plans and no mention: promise broken. How about his adamant attitude that the Bush tax cuts would not be extended for high earners? The cuts were extended in Dec. 2010 with Obama’s approval.  Increase capital gains and dividends taxes for the wealthy: sorry, can’t do. Obama promised to phase out exemptions and deductions for higher earners, also failure. He said he would extend the child and dependent care credit and end income tax for seniors making less than $50,000: again, failure.

The list goes on:

Close Guantanamo Bay Detention Center (huge campaign promise). Not only will Gitmo not be closed it will remain open so that detainees can be tried there instead of a court of law in the US.

Bradley Manning is being held without due process; the administration  knows about it and doesn’t care. Many human rights organizations have condemned  Manning’s inhumane treatment. Bush/Cheney lives on in the current administration.

Pres. Obama can claim his own war now and without congressional approval.

Create cap-and-trade system with interim goals to reduce global warming: nope.

Candidate Obama promised to centralize ethics and lobbying information for voters and to institute tougher rules against  the revolving door for lobbyists and former government officials. Meh, what a joke!

We Democrats must enjoy being obsequious , brain-dead idiots. Is there any other explanation for the poll that puts Obama’s approval rating at 80% among Democrats?  Glenn Greenwald  is correct :

Conventional D.C. wisdom — that which Obama vowed to subvert but has done as much as any President to bolster — has held for decades that Democratic Presidents succeed politically by being as “centrist” or even as conservative as possible. That attracts independents, diffuses GOP enthusiasm, casts the President as a triangulating concilitator, and generates raves from the DC press corps — all while keeping more than enough Democrats and progressives in line through a combination of anti-GOP fear-mongering and partisan loyalty.

The Prez is quite aware that his “base”  is not going anywhere: we’re a glutton for his punishment. The Gallup poll ending week of April 10 shows Obama’s’ approval rating among independents to be 39%;  a 4 percentage point drop from the previous week.  Get the picture? The president is nowhere near the “change agent” he claimed to be: he’s fully aware that he needs to appeal to the swing voters. After all like most powerful individuals he wants to remain in power as long as possible.

If you don’t believe that Obama has Democrats by the short hairs read this piece at Salon by Steve Kornacki who evidently believes that Democrats are exceptionally stupid.

I doubt that most casual Democratic voters have the same passion about and understanding of most of the issues that Obama has supposedly sold them out on. Poll results on individual policy issues tend to be extremely misleading. Most voters simply don’t follow policy debates nearly as closely as political commentators do. Their feelings are often ill-formed and malleable. When presented with an isolated policy question, they’re prone to give one response, only to reverse themselves when given more information. Thus, we now see polls that show voters overwhelmingly opposed to raising the debt ceiling. Why? Because they instinctively view debt as a bad thing. Why would we ever want to raise the ceiling on it? But then ask them if they’d hold the same opinion if it meant slashing Medicare and their answers change.

Poor wittle Democrats we don’t know nothing!  Or maybe Kornacki is correct: we don’t give a damn as long as a Democrat is in the White House. Doesn’t matter if he favors the wealthy or violates civil liberties or starts a war (yeah, I listened to his speech today: *that* was Candidate Obama speaking; will he fool us again?)

What to do? The Democratic “base”; those who believed in “Change” need to demand that Pres. Obama stick to his word. I understand the word compromise but I don’t support capitulation.

Trap Neuter Return: You Can Help Cats

In Cats, People on April 9, 2011 at 11:09 pm

I know, I know! We  have more important issues to worry about than the plight of feral cats, right?  I believe that those who seek to help those creatures, human or not, less fortunate than themselves are the true heroes in this world.  Feral, or wild cats exist due to the irresponsibility of people who have refused to spay or neuter their cats.  These people let their “pets” roam the outside and produce kittens that will be forced to fight fiercely to survive.

Many municipalities across the US have chosen to trap and kill feral cats : this is not only a cruel “solution” but doesn’t work at all to rid a community of feral cats. The vacuum left by the killed cats will only be filled by additional cats. The answer is to humanly trap the cats, have them neutered and then release them to their familiar environment.

My family has cared for a colony of feral cats for 6 years. The colony originally contained 25+ cats; we are now down to 5 cats in 2011.  This is typical: no one knows what happens to the cats that have been neutered but you can be assured that those cats will not produce additional kittens that will suffer.

There is a difference between feral and stray cats. Stray cats are acclimated to human contact and are adoptable. Feral cats haven’t had any  human contact: they are not adoptable and should not be brought to shelters or pounds.

Many states have non-profit organizations that will assist you with traps and the neutering. As mentioned our family trapped and neutered 25+ cats: we paid $15 for each cat. That amount is considerably less than the cost to spay or neuter your pet. As humans encroach more and more on the habitat of animals the problem only becomes worse. Humans complain about the feral cats but don’t seem willing to accept that they are the  problem by refusing to neuter their pets and letting them roam. Humans make it the cats’ fault.  If  you believe that you’re wrong.

Visit the website of Alley Cat Allies, a national  non-profit organization working to ” transform and develop communities to protect and improve the lives of cats.”  You will find information on both stray and feral cats and how to help these animals. At the local level contact your ASPCA or send an email to Alley Cat Allies. You will be put in touch with a local non-profit that can supply the humane traps and neutering service. I know this country is dealing with a lot right now but believe we shouldn’t  forget those in need, whether human or animal.

GOP Target: Everyman

In Economy, Politics on April 7, 2011 at 8:53 am

Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI), Chairman of the Budget Committee revealed his proposed 2012 budget on April 5.  The misleading title of the proposal is Path to Prosperity (pdf).

The media were mostly focused on Ryan’s changes to Medicare, Medicaid, food stamps and tax rates. That’s to be expected: the “path to prosperity” only applies to the wealthy, corporations and big oil.  The poor, the middle-class, the elderly and the disabled are on the road to ruin (or worse).

Included in Ryan’s budget is the plan to freeze the salaries of federal employees  for 5 years and reduce their “generous benefits”.  The GOP, either at the state or federal level, is intent on attacking public workers. The lie they tell is that public employees are paid too much.  According to the Office of Personnel Management  (OPM) the average salary for federal civilian employees (data excludes the Post Office and most intelligence agencies) at the end of fiscal year 2010 was $76,586. Nearly half (48%) of federal employees had either a four year college degree or an advanced degree during the same time period. OPM states that their educational data should be “treated at the lower bounds since education level is recorded at the time of  hire and is only updated at the employees’ initiative thereafter”. These employees work for various agencies of the executive branch including Treasury, Veterans Affairs, Justice, Environmental Protection, Homeland Security, Commerce, Defense, NASA, etc.

If salaries are frozen and benefits reduced government won’t be able to attract well-educated individuals to public service. This of course is the same argument Wall Street posited for paying billions in salaries and bonuses: without those obscene paydays the “best and the brightest” would go elsewhere. Compare Wall Street-the gamblers who nearly destroyed our economy and were then bailed out with taxpayer money-to the average federal employee.  An average annual salary of  $76, 586 is *not* too much to pay for example a Justice Department lawyer or a Treasury CPA. Get real.

Why are public employees thought of as almost a different species from the rest of us? Public employees include teachers, firemen, policemen, lawyers, janitors, museum directors, accountants, chemists, professors, social workers and the list goes on. They too have families to feed and mortgages to pay. Public employees aren’t a homogenous group and shouldn’t be a constant target for legislators who desire to reduce the quality of life for all Americans except the wealthy and already privileged.

Congressman Ryan rewards corporations, the rich, banks, oil companies and Wall Street in his budget. His victims include the poor, the elderly, the disabled, the middle-class, public employees, the environment and future generations of Americans.

David Brooks thinks Ryan is a visionary as evidenced by his sycophantic NYT column  referring to the congressman as “a powerful elected official willing to issue a proposal, willing to take a stand, willing to face the political perils” and referring to his budget proposal as”the most comprehensive and most courageous budget reform proposal any of us have seen in our lifetimes”.

Since when does it take courage to be a corporate boot-licker? Ryan + his budget = typical GOP swill. Keep moving, there’s nothing  to see here, nothing new and certainly nothing courageous.
